Emissions from cars, trucks, planes and powerplants cause 13,000 premature deaths in the United Kingdom every year. In addition fumes originating elsewhere in Europe cause an additional 6,000 premature deaths in the UK each year. In some areas on the periphery of the U.K. almost all air pollution comes from the rest of Europe. Air pollution costs at least £6 billion a year and possibly as much as £60bn in the UK.
